Celta Vigo to sign Abel Hernandez to replace Maxi Gomez

Celta Vigo will complete the signing of Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez on a free transfer this summer, report Diario AS.

The news claims that the 28-year-old has already agreed to join the Galician club and all that is missing is the official announcement from the club.

Hernandez is out of contract at CSKA Moscow having been released earlier this week – the striker scored just three goals in 14 appearances for the Russian side.

The striker is most noted for his six-year stint at Italian club Palermo, where he netted 36 goals across 122 appearances before a 2014 move to Hull City.

Hernandez grabbed 39 goals across 111 appearances for the English side but did not have his contract renewed last summer, and reportedly was close to joining Leeds United before his move to Russia.

The report claims the striker will replace his fellow countryman Maxi Gomez – who has been heavily linked to an exit from Celta this summer.

Gomez has been heavily linked with moves to Barcelona, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham with his contract containing a €50m release clause.
