Raphael Varane commits future to Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has ended speculation on his future at the outgoing European champions: “I’m going to stay.”

The future of the France international had been under scrutiny this summer with reports suggested he wanted a move away while the club are signing Porto defender Eder Militao in a €50m deal.

“I'm going to stay here next year, I'm sure we're going to relive strong emotions,” Varane told n interview with Marca.

“We have fought and we have tried hard, and we cannot blame anything in particular but it is true that we missed that spark in the difficult moments.

“In football you have cycles and last season I was not at my best level but we will see the best Varane again.

“We have to evolve and Zinedine Zidane is clear about it, we have to rebuild, we have to change things as in a change of cycle.”

The 25-year-old joined Madrid in 2011 from Lens and has made 275 first-team appearances since, netting 12 goals and winning 16 trophies, including four Champions League crowns.
