Barcelona club president Josep Bartomeu has confirmed that the club will assess Ivan Rakitic's contract situation at the end of the season.
The Croatian international is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2021, however talks over an improved deal for the midfielder are ongoing.
The former Sevilla player has consistently stated his desire to remain in Catalonia, but he would like an extension and a salary increase, and Bartomeu confirmed the club are looking into it.
"We want our players to be happy and Rakitic is one of the most important players at Barcelona.
"The manager has a lot of faith in him.
"However we must ensure that we retain the right balance of wages and we will see at the end of the season what happens with him."
