Valverde: We are closer to the title, but it is not certain

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is continuing to preach caution in the La Liga title race, despite his side moving 11 points clear at the top with a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Second half goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi secured the victory for the Catalan side at the Nou Camp, effectively ending Diego Simeone's chances of a league title in 2019.

La Blaugrana could have the title confirmed by the end of April, however the former Athletic Bilbao boss is not taking anything for granted.

"This was an important three points.

"We are closer to the title, but nothing is decided yet – we have to finish the job.

"It was important to win today against our closest rivals, and Atletico mad it very hard for us throughout the game."

Valverde's side head to Old Trafford in midweek for their Champions League quarter final first leg, and Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted in the Nou Camp crowd.

"We have a very important match next in the Champions League, and then we will focus on Huesca next weekend.

"We want to win everything, but our first focus after today will be on the Champions League."
