Raphael Varane considers transfer from Real Madrid

Fresh reports say Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is seriously considering a transfer away from the club in the summer transfer window.

Earlier this week, Diario AS were the latest outlet to report on the Frenchman’s desire to leave Los Blancos while ESPN FC now confirm that sources have verified these reports.

The report in AS outlined how the central defender was unhappy the club did not officially hold an event for his World Cup triumph with France last year, with Juventus heavily linked to a move.

Calciomercato have said the Les Bleus international is the ‘number one priority’ of Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici this summer, while fresh reports in Spain have also cast doubt upon his future.

On La Sexta’s El Chiringuito TV in Spain, Jose Luis Sanchez reported on Monday that Madrid had been informed of Varane’s decision that he wanted to leave this summer.

The 25-year-old joined Madrid in 2011 from Lens and has made 269 first-team appearances since, netting 12 goals and winning 16 trophies, including four Champions League crowns.

The central defender also helped his nation to last summer’s World Cup title and his future is now under scrutiny with the impending arrival of FC Porto defender Eder Militao at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Diario Sport reported this weekend that the talented Varane is now highly fancied by the Bianconeri, following up on a similar report in L’Equipe.

Varane has long been a central defensive partner of Sergio Ramos in the Spanish capital but the individual form of a number of players has come under scrutiny this season.

However, Madrid are unlikely to sanction a move away for the Frenchman, who has three years left on his contract, particularly as no club is in a position to activate his release clause of €500m.
