POST MATCH: Isco returns as Real Madrid win on Zidane’s return

Zinedine Zidane enjoyed a perfect return as Real Madrid manager as Los Blancos beat relegation threatened Celta Vigo 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman returned to the club he left nine months ago, in midweek, and he received a impressive reception from the home fans ahead of kick off against the Galician side.

One of the first changes he made to was to restore Spanish international Isco to the starting line up, and the former Malaga midfielder returned the favour, by opening the scoring just after the hour mark – his first goal since December 6th.

Another player who did not enjoy the full confidence of previous manager Santiago Solari is Gareth Bale, and the Welshman doubled their  lead on 77 minutes, as he slotted home from Karim Benzema's pass.

It did take the home side a while to get into their stride, but Zidane will be pleased with the second half performance of his players, with Bale and Benzema both unlucky not to extend their lead in the closing ten minutes.

The win means Real Madrid remain in third place in La Liga, but they are now only two points behind city rivals Ateltico Madrid, who lost 2-0 away at Athletic Bilbao.
