Valverde: We fought together as a team against Rayo Vallecano

Ernesto Valverde praised the togetherness of his Barcelona side, as they came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-1 on Saturday night. 

The defending La Liga champions went 1-0 down inside the first half an hour at the Nou Camp, but goals from Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez secured all three points for La Blaugrana – who remain seven points clear of second place Atletico Madrid. 

Barcelona face Lyon on Wednesday night in the Champions League last 16 second leg, and Valverde was pleased with his side at full time.

"The first goal of the game went against us.

"But it we stayed focused an fought together to get back into the game.

"We have come through today, as we have done with other tough tests this season, as a team."

The former Athletic Bilbao boss also singled out defender Gerard Pique for praise, with the 32 year-oldd in excellent recent form.

"Pique is playing regularly as he has done all season.

"He is important in scoring and preventing goals this season 

"He is very skillful and excellent in his positioning. He could play in midfield."
