Girona striker Cristhian Stuani has confessed Barcelona attempted to sign him in January before he signed a new contract at Montilivi.
The experienced Uruguayan only joined the Catalan club in the summer of 2017 from Middlesbrough but has been a huge hit in Spain, netting 34 times in just 51 league starts.
Only Barcelona's Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi have scored more than the 32-year-old in La Liga this season, with 13 league goals to his name.
“There was interest from Barcelona then (in January),” Stuani confirmed, RAC1, as cited by Diario Sport.
“It was a proud moment for me, to have a club like Barcelona interested in signing me, but I’m also very happy about penning a new deal at Girona.
“A relegation clause? No that does not exist but we know our objective is to remain in this division.”
Stuani's new deal takes him through until 2022 with the Catalan club.
