Levante call for Copa del Rey suspension amid Barcelona appeal

Levante have called for a temporary suspension of the Copa del Rey until their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport is heard.

Barcelona player Juan Brandáriz, better known as Chumi, played during the first leg of the last 16 clash against Levante earlier this month.

However, reports later emerged that the player was not sanctioned to play in the match due to being banned whilst playing for the club’s B side.

Levante lost the tie 4-2 on aggregate and their subsequent appeal over the player was thrown out as their 48-hour time limit for submitting their complaint had expired.

The Valencia-based club then went to the Appeals Committee, who dismissed the claim on Monday night, but added that it was possible to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, within a period of fifteen days from the day after the notification is received.

Levante have now confirmed they have went down this path and believe the competition – which gets back underway this midweek – should be temporarily suspended until this appeal is heard.
