Levante confirm reporting of Barcelona to Spanish FA

Levante president Quico Catalan has confirmed the club will lodge a formal complaint against Barcelona with the Spanish FA for playing an ineligible player.

A report in El Mundo claims that one of Barca’s players for their first leg defeat– Juan Brandáriz , better known as Chumi – was not sanctioned to play in the match due to being banned whilst playing for the club’s B side.

“If Barça were in the same situation as Levante then they would do the same and we would have to understand that,” Catalan is reported as saying by Cadena Cope.

“I know it was not ideal to have not noticed this before but we are in time to denounce this, the subject is important enough and it is up to us to exhaust all possibilities.

“The norm when you study and analyse this is clear.”

Earlier in the day, Catalan had confirmed: “Independent of the result (of Thursday’s second leg), Levante will take the situation to the RFEF regarding Barcelona's possible ineligible line-up.

“We understand there is a solid law that allows the club to bring this to the Federation.”

Barca’s 3-0 win on Thursday night saw the Catalan side triumph 4-2 on aggregate to seal their place in the quarter-finals as they aim for their fourth Copa title in five seasons.
