Ernesto Valverde noncommittal on Barcelona future

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has remained tight-lipped on his future at the club beyond the current season.

Despite winning the domestic double last season and seeing his side lead La Liga by five points this time around, he has hinted his future may lie away from the Catalan giants.

“I have a contract here, which will be respected by both me and Barcelona,” Valverde told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“I am sure that will be the case and I have said before, after that date I do not want to predict anything in football.

“The title race? There remains a long way to go and there is still an entire half of the season to be played, and I am sure all teams will drop points.

“Atletico Madrid are just five points from us and they are capable of challenging; they are really tough, extremely consistent – our advantage can go in just two or three games.

“This was a tough match for us because they pressed us high and they have the best press in the division but the goals helped allow us to begin to dominate.

“The Copa del Rey return leg? I do not believe that if we go out then it helps us with other competitions, we want to win every game and every tournament.

“We lost after making rotations on Thursday but we have a chance to rectify this and I will field a suitable team to do this.”
