Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde: “Getafe made us suffer”

Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde admits his side had to ‘suffer a lot’ in Sunday evening’s 2-1 victory at Getafe.

Early goals from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez seemingly put the Catalan giants in control but Jaime Mata pulled one back for the hosts before the break before Los Azulones spurned a number of excellent opportunities in front of goal.

“It was a high-pressure game for us because we knew the results that had preceded it,” Valverde told reporters after the match, as cited by Marca.

“That put us under pressure for a game that already promised to be extremely difficult, it was a big opportunity for us but it was never going to be straightforward.

“We received exactly the level of performance and commitment from Getafe that we expected, and any type of win in this stadium is a good win.

“We had to suffer a lot but ultimately we had our eyes on the points and that is important to keep us out in front.

“We had to stay focused throughout the game, not to let our concentration drop and I am very happy with our level of performance.

“I do not think about other teams and I will not comment on their results.”
