Luis Suarez golazo fires Barcelona past Getafe

Luis Suarez’s golazo fired Barcelona to a 2-1 victory over Getafe on Sunday as the Catalans opened a five-point lead at the top of La Liga.

Suarez’s volley wrapped up the result for Barca with six minutes of the first half to spare, despite a spirited effort from Getafe to overturn their deficit.

Jeison Murillo was named in a Blaugrana matchday squad for the first time since his move from Valencia, while Sergio Busquets was rested and Ousmane Dembele continued in place of Philippe Coutinho.

They faced a Geta side who were flying high in seventh place and had Leeds United loanee Samu Saiz on the bench, although Los Azulones had not beaten Barca in the League for eight years.

Jaime Mata quickly put away a cross at the far post, but the goal wasn’t given as Clement Lenglet was fouled in its build-up.

Nonetheless, Messi emerged with the ball from a melee in Getafe’s box, before dinking a finish into an empty net.

Gerard Pique should’ve doubled Barca’s lead but only shot straight at David Soria from close range, yet Suarez did when he volleyed home first time from the edge of Geta’s box.

The hosts responded well and Jordi Alba unwittingly deflected a cross onto Marc-Andre ter Stegen's post.

That was followed by Angel meeting a long, diagonal ball into the Catalans’ box and knocking it across goal for Mata to tap in just before half-time.

Barca were able to see out the win in the second half, although Mata lost his footing at a crucial moment and couldn’t keep his shot down from a couple of yards out.
