Gareth Bale golazo edges Real Madrid past Huesca

Bale's golazo sent Madrid into the Champions League places, although Huesca defied their status as the League's bottom side and forced Dani Carvajal into a goal-line clearance at the death.

Alvaro Odriozola replaced the injured Sergio Reguilon in Madrid’s defence, so Carvajal acted as a makeshift left-back, with Marcelo still sidelined.

Other than that, it was an unchanged line-up named by Santiago Solari as Mariano Diaz added to a treatment table that already included Marcelo, Reguilon, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Nacho Fernandez.

This was the first-ever top-flight meeting between Los Blancos and Huesca, who had not won in La Liga since the opening day of the season.

However, Madrid only won courtesy of an eighth-minute Bale strike, when the Welshman met Odriozola's cross from the right and side-footed a volley home.

Aleksandar Jovanovic then tipped over another Bale effort from distance, but Huesca should've at least been on level terms as an unmarked Xabi Etxeita headed wide and Thibaut Courtois kept out a powerful Cucho Hernandez drive.

The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, but Gonzalo Melero missed another free header and Courtois turned over David Ferreiro's piledriver.

Los Blancos did hit back through Bale, who had a long-range drive saved by Jovanovic and a chip deflected just wide, but Carvajal was at the right place at the right time to clear Christian Rivera's shot off the line in stoppage time.
