Barcelona confirm Malcom out for 2018 but others return

Barcelona forward Malcom is set for two weeks out with an ankle injury but both Luis Suarez and Arthur Melo have returned to first-team training.

The Brazilian was given a rare start by Ernesto Valverde in the midweek Copa del Rey match against Cultural Leonesa but he could not complete the game after sustaining the injury in the closing stages.

The 21-year-old scored his second goal for the Blaugrana in the match but the club have now confirmed he will be out of action for a fortnight.

However, as reported by ESPN FC’s Barcelona correspondent Sam Marsden, the former Bordeaux forward will now be out of action until the New Year as Barca’s final game of 2018 is 22 December.

The better news for Barca is that Suarez has returned following two weeks out with a knee injury while Arthur had a thigh problem.

Sergi Roberto still is ruled out with a hamstring injury while Rafinha Alcantara is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Barca play Espanyol in an all-Catalan derby on Saturday night.
