Barcelona unclear on Malcom ankle injury, confirms Ernesto Valverde

Barcelona are concerned over an ankle injury sustained by Brazilian forward Malcom in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa.

The Brazilian was given a rare start by Ernesto Valverde in the match but he could not complete the game after sustaining the injury in the closing stages.

“Malcom has a strain, but we don’t know how bad it is,” Valverde told reporters after the game, as cited by Marca.

“On Thursday he will get it assessed and we will wait until the diagnosis before talking further, but it is the same ankle that he hurt in the summer so it is a worry.

“It was a good game for us, an opportunity to play those who have had fewer minutes and players who are in the B side.

“Riqui Puig? We are very happy with his performance, he never hides and always wants to be on the ball.

“The opposition never gave up and we had a good atmosphere inside the stadium.”
