Cesar Noval: Assisting Real Madrid clash hours after marathon operation

Assistant referee Cesar Noval will run the line for Saturday’s La Liga clash between Eibar and Real Madrid hours days after performing a sex change operation.

The Spanish surgeon – who doubles up as a football official – was in the headlines in Spain on Wednesday for carrying out the operation in one single sitting, a marathon 17 hours.

The phalloplasty operation was carried out in Valencia in a single sitting, despite the process in Spain usually requiring between two and ten years to complete.

“The result was a great success,” Noval is quoted as saying by Spanish outlet 20 Minutos, who said he was ‘passionate’ about his surgeon work and ‘honoured’ by his La Liga roles.

Noval has been an official in Spanish football since 2010 and is one of the top-ranked assistant referees, frequently involved in top matches and in UEFA competition.
