Barcelona fear defender Samuel Umtiti will be unavailable until next year due to an ongoing problem with his left knee, say reports.
The France international has missed the Catalan giants recent clashes against Athletic Club Bilbao, Tottenham and Valencia after concerns of a knee problem against Leganes.
Diario Sport now report that the central defender’s progress ‘is much more negative than expected’ and he could be set to sit out several months of action.
At the very least, the Cameroon-born player will miss out this month’s games against Sevilla, Inter and Real Madrid but there are fears it could be a significant absence.
Umtiti underwent treatment to regenerate the cartilage rather than undergo a knee operation, but this does not appear to be working and he may now need to be operated upon.
