Barcelona will give Samuel Umtiti’s knee surgery a plasma treatment before proceeding with surgery, according to reports.
Diario AS detail how the Frenchman played with a twinge in that knee during the summer’s World Cup while his subsequent break did not help the situation.
Now, the former Olympique Lyonnais defender is set to be injected with his own blood to ‘regenerate the cartilage’ with the acknowledgement that this is no sure-fired recovery process.
Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet are set to occupy central defensive positions in his absence, with the latter serving his one-game suspension ban as he missed out Wednesday’s loss at Leganes last week.
Thomas Vermaelen adds further cover in the position, but Umtiti’s injury will come as a significant blow as he is regarded as one of the league’s star defenders.
