La Liga Week 5 round-up: Six for Sevilla

Sevilla hit Levante for six in the second half of La Liga’s Week 5 action, but there was more misery for Valencia.

The pressure had been piling on Sevilla boss Pablo Machin after back-to-back defeats to Girona and city rivals Real Betis, but the Andalusians followed up their five-star performance against Standard Liege with one better at Levante.

Wissam Ben Yedder was Los Nervionenses’ hat-trick hero, opening the scoring and helping his team recover from Roger Marti’s equaliser as Daniel CarricoAndre Silva and Pablo Sarabia also got on the scoresheet.

Moses Simon did grab his first goal for Levante in stoppage time, but it was nowhere near enough for Paco Lopez’s side to avoid a third defeat in four games.

Valencia, meanwhile, recorded their worst start to a season for 19 years after they fired blanks against nearby Villarreal.

Los Che did climb out of the relegation zone with their point, but they lost captain Dani Parejo to a red card and remain winless in 2018-19, whereas the Yellow Submarine have not picked up a home victory since beating Los Che 1-0 in May.

Finally, Betis came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday evening.

Inaki Williams and Raul Garcia put Athletic two to the good inside the first 18 minutes, but the momentum swung the other way when Markel Susaeta was sent off just before half-time.

Indeed, Marc Bartra and Sergio Canales ensured a share of the spoils for two of La Liga’s draw specialists.
