Sergio Busquets insists Clement Lenglet should not have been sent off against Girona as Pere Pons ‘fouled’ the Barcelona defender first.
“The Girona player even gets up and apologises for the foul,” said the midfielder after Sunday’s 2-2 draw.
“The ball was on the ground, Lenglet intercepted it and kicked it. It was a natural action and he wasn’t looking for his opponent.
“I’m in favour of VAR, but there should be the same criteria for every team. Until the red card, we were having a good game.
“That incident made things uphill with a man down, but we still put in a great effort and came close to the win.
“We all want to play well and win, but every team find it tough at the start of the season.”
