Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu ‘big fan’ of United States La Liga games

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admits the club are ‘big fans’ of the idea to stage their league clash with Girona in Miami.

La Liga plans to have the match, initially planned for the Estadi Montilivi in late January, moved to Miami and has the agreement of both Catalan clubs.

“We are big fans of the idea although it is not our decision,” Bartomeu told Onda Cero, in quotes cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We believe this is the right move to promote La Liga and Spanish football, it will increase our exposure and we believe it is the future.

“If the initial games passes off without incident and is a success, which we believe it will be, then we are confident other clubs will also want to proceed with the idea.

“The political situation? As clubs, we want to distance ourselves from it, even though politics is intrinsically linked to football.

“We want a situation where we have increased revenue streams.”
