UD Ibiza sign Marco Borriello

Segunda Division B outfit UD Ibiza have confirmed the signing of veteran Italian striker Marco Borriello on a free transfer.

The club, based in the holiday resort on the Balaeric Islands, were promoted to Spain’s third tier this summer for the first time since their formation in 2015.

Corriere della Sera and Calciomercato.com also say that compatriot and former Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano is in talks regarding a move to the club.

Borriello, 36, has spent the entirety of his career in Serie A and played for SPAL last season, while he netted 16 league goals the campaign prior with Cagliari.

The journeyman has also enjoyed various stints with Milan, Roma, Juventus and Genoa while playing a brief stint with West Ham United in 2014.

Ibiza are bankrolled by Amadeo Salvo, who is best known for his presidency of Valencia between 2013 and 2015 while they are attempting to generate great interest alongside building a team capable of promotion.
