Xabi Alonso has returned to Real Madrid after four years away from the club to coach the club’s Under-14 team.
The former central midfielder secured his requisite coaching badges earlier this year and follows in the footsteps of a long line of former Madrid players, including Guti, Santiago Solari and Zinedine Zidane, in returning to the club after their playing career.
The 36-year-old arrived from Liverpool in the summer of 2009 and spent five years with the club, making 236 appearances and winning every trophy on offer before joining Bayern Munich in 2014.
It is expected Alonso will coach the side for the entire season in order to obtain his UEFA Pro Licence.
