La Liga Wk2: Espanyol stun Valencia

Espanyol achieved a first by beating Valencia in La Liga Week 2, while nothing could separate Sevilla and Villarreal.

Espanyol were many people’s tips to struggle in 2018-19, but they followed up a credible draw at Celta Vigo on the opening weekend with a 2-0 victory over Champions League qualifiers Valencia.

The Catalans pulled through with two goals in six, second-half minutes as Esteban Granero curled in a free kick on the hour mark, before €10m signing Borja Iglesias made sure of the win.

The result also meant Rubi’s side had become the first team in 2018 to beat Los Che, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Sevilla, on the other hand, could only draw 0-0 with Villarreal, who picked up their first point of the season.

The Andalusians thrashed Rayo Vallecano 4-1 last weekend and started with hat-trick hero Andre Silva, but they met their match in the Yellow Submarine.

However, the game sadly ended with Sergio Escudero going off on a stretcher after a very awkward landing from a 50-50 saw him twist his elbow and potentially break it.
