Preview: Alaves-Betis

Real Betis will be out for revenge after an opening-day thumping when they travel to Alaves in La Liga on Saturday.

Alaves boss Abelardo Fernandez on Jonathan Calleri and a ‘Barcelona-esque’ Betis: “It’s still a bit early for him, but I think when he comes into the squad, he’ll give us goals.

“I say that because he played in Brazil. Regardless of who plays for Betis, they’ll have a certain resemblance to Barcelona, in the sense that they like to have the ball.

“They also like to mix things up and can go from playing with a back three to a 4-4-2. We’ll adapt to how the game pans out.

“They suffered a big defeat to Levante last weekend, so they’ll try to take all three points this time around.”

Betis boss Quique Setien on the prospect of playing in the US: “If it was an away match, I could understand it.

“I’m not ready to play a match after six or eight hours of travel, with the change in time zone…

“I don’t like those uncertainties because when you’re taken out of routine, it can affect you.

“However, for Betis to play a game against a team like Real Madrid and Barcelona in another country, it could give us exposure and prestige, and that’s another thing to consider.”
