La Liga Wk1: New heroes!

Sunday’s opening-day action in La Liga witnessed the making of new heroes for Sevilla and new boys Huesca.

Huesca travelled to Eibar in their first-ever top-flight fixture, and an Alex Gallar brace secured a memorable 2-1 win at Ipurua.

Gallar, who only made his professional breakthrough a year ago, came up trumps with a mazy dribble, before his free kick lobbed Marko Dmitrovic from 40 yards out.

Eibar pulled one back through Gonzalo Escalante’s tap-in, but the Aragonese club held on to become only the third team to win away from home on their Primera debut in 72 years.

However, it wasn’t so memorable for Rayo Vallecano, who crashed to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of an Andre Silva-inspired Sevilla.

Franco Vazquez broke the deadlock with a fine flick, before Silva showed his poaching instincts with a hat-trick of penalty-box finishes.

VAR did give Rayo an reprieve from the spot late on, which Adri Embarba duly took, but the Milan loanee nonetheless became the first player to score three times on his Liga debut in the 21st century.
