Spurs ‘enter race’ for Stanislav Lobotka

Tottenham have emerged as late contenders to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka this summer and are prepared to pay €35m, say reports.

In June, Faro de Vigo reported Napoli were in ‘advanced negotiations’ for the Slovakian midfielder but his €40m release clause has not yet been triggered by the Italian club.

Elsewhere, France Football stated Paris Saint-Germain and Inter have began preparations to lodge bids with Celta increasingly wary the player may depart this summer.

Now a report in the Mirror states Spurs – who are yet to sign a player this summer – have joined the race, three days before the English transfer window closes.

“The possibility (of leaving) always exists,” Lobotka told Diario Pravda last month, as cited by El Desmarque.

“I do not rule it out if there is an interesting offer that allows me to go one step further in my career.

“But right now, nothing has changed and I’m preparing for the new season.”

The 23-year-old featured in all 38 La Liga matches last season for the Galician side after joining from Danish club Nordsjaelland last summer and has impressed at both club and international level for Slovakia.

Lobotka’s deal to Celta last summer was priced at €5m while he signed a new deal at Estadio Balaidos in February, extending his deal until 2021 and boosting his release clause to a reported €40m.

In January, Inter had been linked with a move for the central midfielder but were knocked back in their advances.
