Valverde frustration at Barca absentees

Ernesto Valverde expressed frustration at not having more first-team Barcelona players available for his pre-season matches.

His side slipped to a 4-2 defeat against Roma on Tuesday, with many of his regular starters still on holiday following their World Cup participation.

“We have been accused of not bringing through enough young players, but they will learn from pre-season matches,” Valverde told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“The first team would have been able to cope with these games better, they are constantly together and share a great understanding.

“The match? We dominated it until the final 15 minutes, but with so many changes this should not be unsurprising.

“Roma had out a more experienced team so it is normal they could take advantage of the situations later on.

“I’m very happy for Rafinha who has been excellent in both games, his attitude has been fantastic and it is good to work with him for the first time.

“Malcom deserved his goal, he showed great movement and strength, he can hold onto the ball well.”
