Valverde praises Barca signings

Ernesto Valverde has praised the performance of Barcelona after a 2-2 draw with Tottenham and especially the performance of his new signings.

All three of the club’s new signings – Arthur Melo, Clement Lenglet and Malcom – featured in Saturday’s night draw, which the Catalan club won after a penalty shootout.

“It was a strong performance and there was a lot of aspects that I liked,” Valverde is cited as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We tried to dominate the game with our possession, the displays of our youth players were strong and in the first half we did a lot of things well.

“For me, this was a positive game for us with the only negatives being the injuries (to Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez) but they will fly home now to have tests.

“The new signings? They all played really well, it was evident that both Lenglet and Arthur have been training with us for a little while.

“We had no doubts about Lenglet because he already played in Spain and we have been working on Arthur settling in but this was very encouraging.

“We believe Arthur can give us a lot in terms of possession, bringing the ball forward and offering a goal threat.”
