Madrid bring back goalkeeping coach

Real Madrid have brought back goalkeeping coach Juan Garrido Canales for a second spell.

Canales was the goalkeeping coordinator for Madrid’s youth teams between 2008 and 2013, working alongside new boss Julen Lopetegui in his first season.

He was then promoted to the first team, which saw him assist Italian veteran Villiam Vecchi for two campaigns and Iker Casillas recover from being dropped by Jose Mourinho.

The 51-year-old then made way for Xavi Valero after Rafa Benitez replaced Carlo Ancelotti as Coach during the summer of 2015.

However, Zinedine Zidane’s man Luis Llopis has followed him out of the Santiago Bernabeu to become Real Sociedad’s goalkeeper coach.

Nonetheless, the former shot-stopper has experience of working with current No 1 Keylor Navas, albeit in his first season as back-up to Casillas.

Garrido completes Lopetegui’s backroom staff, which includes assistants Pablo Sanz and Oscar Caro, plus three of Zidane’s team – fitness coaches Antonio Pintus and Javier Mallo and therapist Jose Carlos García Parrales.
