Asier Garitano has claimed that he will ‘always’ feel an affinity with Leganes and promised to return to the club one day.
Garitano leaves Leganes as their greatest-ever Coach, having taken the Madrid minnows from the depths of the Spanish third tier to a second season in La Liga.
“Here at Leganes, everything we’ve done has been unimaginable and very beautiful, and in time it’ll give me a lot more joy,” he said during an address to the fans after Saturday’s 3-2 win against Real Betis.
“I felt the time had come. That’s why I chose this moment to leave. Having said that, I’ll always be here. I’ll look for something different, but only in my career.
“For Leganes, the most important moment was to reach professional football. We want to be in La Liga forever. That’s the mentality I want for this team. I’m one of you.
“Leganes have given absolutely everything. When time passes, I’ll be much more emotional than today. I’ll come back when you ask me to.”
