Villarreal midfielder Samu Castillejo says his club deserved to qualify for Europe for a fifth successive season.
Furthermore, the former Malaga man says the Yellow Submarine should receive a lot of credit for their top-six finish to the campaign.
“We deserve a lot of credit for getting into European competition again, particularly as it’s for a fifth consecutive year,” Castillejo told Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s time for us to celebrate this because it isn’t easy to do it every year, so we must value the work and effort the players have put in.
“It’s very important both in an economic and sporting sense as it gives us a lot of prestige and extra motivation.”
The 23-year-old was on target twice in Villarreal’s last game, a 4-2 win at Deportivo la Coruna, and is looking forward to this weekend, when Real Madrid are the visitors for the final game of the season.
“It has to be a beautiful day for everyone, something to enjoy, and we’ll try to close the year by making the fans enjoy themselves and reaching fifth place.”
