Andres Iniesta could be about to follow his former teammate Xavi Hernandez from Barcelona to Qatar.

According to Qatari newspaper Al Sharq, one of the country’s biggest clubs has made an offer for the midfielder, who is leaving the Catalans after the final game of the season this weekend following an illustrious career at the Camp Nou.

Al Sharq claims the proposal may be very attractive to the 34-year-old, not just financially but also commercially and in a sporting sense, while the club in question would guarantee the player the chance of further success.

When Iniesta announced he would be leaving Barca, China was touted as a probable destination, yet Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, the club he was linked with, released a statement saying they would enter into a commercial partnership the Spain international rather than sign him.

Japan has now emerged as a possibility with Australia also having been mentioned.
