Gerard Pique is alleged to have clashed with referee Mario Melero Lopez near the end of Barcelona’s 5-4 defeat to Levante on Sunday.
Barca picked up five yellow cards from the 88th minute onwards and, when Pique protested the decision given when Yerry Mina was adjudged to have fouled goalkeeper Oier Olzabal, the referee spoke to him.
“Be careful, don’t touch me. Don’t threaten me, don’t threaten me,” said Melero as Pique questioned his call, as witnessed by El Dia del Futbol.
However, the defender answered back: “Don’t threaten me? You are threatening me,” he is reported to have said, remarks which were later included in the official’s post-match report.
It is not the first time that Pique and Melero have had a difference of opinion as the pair had words earlier in the season when Barca drew with Celta Vigo.
