Rakitic: Madrid win not worth more

Ivan Rakitic believes success for Real Madrid in the Champions League final would not diminish Barcelona’s achievements this season.

Barca have won the La Liga and Copa del Rey double this term and some insist if Madrid beat Liverpool in Kiev it would eclipse what the Catalans have done – but Rakitic does not see it that way.

“The double will not be worth more if Real Madrid lose the Champions League final. It won’t be worth more or less,” said the Croatian in an interview with BeIN Sports.

“It’s very difficult to win a double, as competing in the league is tougher than in Europe, and when we played Roma in the Champions League it’s not as if we were thinking we were already in the semi-finals. But we thought there was a good chance and then we were out, which was a major blow.”

Rakitic was also asked to comment on Andres Iniesta’s imminent departure from the Camp Nou.

“Our captain is an icon for the whole sport and if you don’t like Iniesta then you don’t like football,” he explained.
