La Real to honour Xabi Prieto

Real Sociedad will pay tribute to Xabi Prieto against Leganes at the weekend with the player’s face replacing the club crest on their shirts.

The 34-year-old, who last month announced he would be hanging up his boots at the end of the season, has spent his entire professional career with the Basques and is eighth in La Real’s list of players with most appearances.

“Xabi has always carried the coat of arms of La Real, and La Real will have him on Saturday as a shield in his last game at the Estadio Anoeta,” read a club statement.

Prieto won five Spain Under-21 caps earlier in his career and also represented the Basque Country 14 times.

The game will also mark the final match for full-back Carlos Martinez following 18 years at the club since he was a child.
