Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will move to Barcelona next year, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo.
The 20-year-old [pictured, right} registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances this term, with nine assists, and has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months.
The Catalans have been in contact with the youngster’s representatives and have secured an agreement to sign him next summer in light of interest from a number of other top clubs.
Barca envisage De Jong as the type of player to bolster their ageing midfield, with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Paulinho all over 30 by the start of next season, while veteran Andres Iniesta will also depart.
Dutch Under-21 international De Jong will be allowed to remain in Holland for another year to develop as a footballer.
