‘Nobody doubts Valverde’ – Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists ‘nobody doubts’ Coach Ernesto Valverde and rejected possible reports of an exit.

The 54-year-old moved to the Camp Nou from Athletic Bilbao last summer and despite leading his side to domestic dominance this season, his relationship with the club’s board was reported to be strained.

A report in El Mundo Deportivo on Saturday, reportedly leaked directly from the club’s board, suggested the Coach would be dismissed should he fail to defeat Sevilla in the Copa final.

As it turned out, the Blaugrana triumphed 5-0 but the club’s exit in the Champions League quarter-finals at the hands of Roma was said to have infuriated the board.

“Those reports (on Valverde’s future) are false,” Bartomeu told Cadena Ser on Thursday night.

“He is in charge of a project and his contract covers two years, and we are all very happy with the job he is doing and we are in regular contact with him.

“Nobody can doubt him after the work he has carried out since the summer and even after the defeat to Roma – which was bad – nobody lost any faith.”
