‘No trophies yet’, warns Valverde

Barcelona must guard against overconfidence because they are yet to win any trophies, insists Coach Ernesto Valverde.

The Catalan giants take on Roma in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday after last week’s 4-1 triumph.

“There should be no talk of the semi finals until after the teams have completed the second leg,” Valverde told reporters on Monday at his pre-match press conference.

“We have not won any trophies yet, we can still win three and right now we are doing well, but we can never look beyond the next game.

“I have been involved in football for many years and there are so many extraordinary things that have happened and we must be wary that those can happen once more in the future.

“You can never start a match believing that you have won it, overconfidence is an issue that can hit any team so we must be wary against it.

“We have a great result from the first leg but now we must think that it is 0-0, think solely on this one match itself and nothing else.”
