Samuel Umtiti held the Barcelona badge in a goal celebration against Roma to show that he ‘loves the club’, he has stated.
The French international played a part in a Roma own goal in Wednesday night’s 4-1 victory, among ongoing speculation over his future at the club.
The central defender’s release clause at the Camp Nou is €60m – only Denis Suarez, at €50m, is lower – and he has been linked with a move away due to wage demands.
“No this is not a unique celebration, I just wanted to say that I love this club,” Umtiti is cited as saying by El Mundo.
“I do not have much more to say…I just play, I try to do my best and that is the most important thing for me and to be at a club like this is an honour.
“There are a lot of things written in the press, some are true and some are false, but I must focus on continuing to play at my level.”
