Xabi Alonso: La Real job too soon for me

Former Real Sociedad midfielder Xabi Alonso has ruled himself out of the running to be the permanent replacement for Eusebio Sacristan.

La Real dismissed the Coach with Imanol Alguacil stepping into the role until the end of the campaign, but Alonso does not believe he will be ready by summer.

“I’m still very green for such a Coaching role and have not yet qualified for my badges,” Alonso told a talk in San Sebastian, in quotes carried by Marca.

“I’m still on my courses and still training, but I have just retired recently from playing so time will tell what the future holds and what my future job is.

“We have to value the work Eusebio carried out across his two years in the job, and football can often be ungrateful and unforgiving in this regard.

“The position of Coach is always a tough one and he did an excellent job, I wish to thank him for his work at my club and to wish him well for the future.

“The decision to appoint Imanol is a sensible one, he has a chance to make an impression and he knows the club well.

“My tax situation? I am calm and I believe I have done everything right, step by step, I trust that this will end well.”
