Ronaldo brace blows Eibar away

Cristiano Ronaldo scored yet another brace as Real Madrid beat Eibar 2-1 on Saturday to consolidate third place in La Liga.

Ronaldo took his tally to 14 goals in his last eight League games, breaking the deadlock in the first half and heading in a second late on to cancel out Ivan Ramis' equaliser.

Isco and Gareth Bale joined Ronaldo in attack as Madrid reverted to a 4-4-2 diamond against Eibar, who had never beaten Los Blancos in La Liga, losing six of their seven previous meetings.

Yet it was the hosts who came out knocking on the door as Takashi Inui's curling strike demanded a fingertip save from Keylor Navas, among a barrage of snapshots.

However, they were left to rue Anaitz Arbilla losing the ball in his own half, Madrid going on to break away and switch the ball to Ronaldo, who coolly slipped his finish past Marko Dmitrovic.

Madrid suffered a blow when Raphael Varane was forced off after a nasty clash of heads with Kike Garcia, but Ronaldo almost grabbed his second before half-time, although Dmitrovic managed to turn his powerful drive from close range over the bar.

Eibar continued to plug away and deservedly equalised just five minutes into the restart through Ivan Ramis, who peeled off Sergio Ramos from a corner, before towering a header home.

A topsy-turvy encounter almost swung back to Madrid straight after, but Luka Modric's angled effort rolled inches wide of the far post and Dmitrovic somehow clawed away Ronaldo's first-time finish.

Nonetheless, Eibar boss Jose Luis Mendilibar ended up punching his dugout as the Portuguese punished another defensive slip-up, sending a thunderous header past Dmitrovic with only six minutes to spare.
