Girona have moved into the top seven and a potential European spot with a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Tuesday night.
Midfielder Portu’s goal in the 14th minute decided the match when his cool finish from the edge of the area after a neat attacking team move.
Maxi Gomez headed narrowly wide for Celta before the break but the hosts had a glorious chance to double in the second half but Jonas Ramalho headed over from a free-kick.
Girona leapfrogged Celta and Real Betis in the table, and now sit two points behind Sevilla, who have played a game fewer.
