Cala completes ‘difficult’ move to China

Defender Juan Cala has completed his €1.5m move to Chinese Super League club Henan Jianye from Getafe, it has been confirmed.

The 28-year-old has also enjoyed stints in Greece, Russia and England throughout his career but has been a central part of Los Azulones defence this season – starting 20 La Liga outings.

Cala’s nomadic career began at Sevilla and has also included loan spells at Cartagena and Granada, before joining the Madrid-based club in the summer of 2016.

“This is the most difficult decision of my career, not just for me but for my family,” Cala wrote in an open letter to Getafe’s fans.

“I have taken a great period of time to make the decision and spent many hours dwelling on it, not without tears, but the responsibility of the future is mine.

“In Getafe I finally found the sporting stability I needed to grow in football, and I found the constant affection of the club’s fantastic fans.

“Getafe are not just a statistic in my career but where I established myself at the top level of football.

“In my 77 matches here, I gave my blood, sweat and tears for the Getafe fans, who are the soul and body of the club.”
