Betis up to 7th with Levante win

Real Betis took an important step closer to Europa League qualification with a 2-0 away victory at lowly Levante on Monday night.

The result took Quique Setien’s side from 11th to 7th in a crammed upper mid-table and within three points of city rivals Sevilla, while Levante have only one victory from 21 league games.

Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan saved efforts from Armando Sadiku and Jose Luis Morales while Roger Marti came agonisingly close to opening the scoring.

The visitors controlled possession and Aissa Mandi missed a glorious opportunity from Joaquin’s free-kick, but the resilience of the home side’s defence limited their chances.

Los Verdiblancos took the lead after the break when Chema Rodriguez inadvertently headed into his own net as the hosts failed to clear a corner.

Sergio Leon wrapped the victory up late on with a clinical finish from Adan’s long-range pass up the pitch.
