Sevilla have confirmed full-back Lionel Carole cannot play in La Liga again this season after the club exceeded their 25-player limit.
The Andalucians signed Brazilian full-back Guillherme Arana alongside the loan arrivals of Roque Mesa, Miguel Layun and Sandro Ramirez left the club’s squad with 26 players.
Arana and Sergio Escudero will now compete for the left-back slot, meaning there is no role for Carole within the squad.
Sevilla’s website claims the club attempted to shift on more players – to add to the departures of Borja Lasso, Walter Montoya and Michael Krohn-Dehli – but had no success on that front.
The 26-year-old full-back has made nine appearances for Sevilla since joining on loan from Galatasaray, with six starts in La Liga.
