Espanyol Coach Quique Sanchez Flores was critical of Gerard Pique’s goal celebration during the Catalan derby on Sunday.
The defender put his finger to his lips and ran to the home support after netting a late equaliser for Barcelona, with the home side’s tactician offering a robust response.
“Our fans are above this sort of behaviour, and will respond in the right way,” Sanchez Flores told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“Pique will not be able to silence our fans, not our fans, this is not something we will concern ourselves with.
“We are happy with our performance, it was a good result and showed we can switch between formations and systems, plus our defensive line was very solid.
“It was tough for both team with poor conditions and a pitch that was cutting up, but I was pleased with our approach and attitude.
“The games with Barcelona do not define our season and we must keep working hard to improve and hope to gather more points in the weeks ahead.”
