Albert Riera confirms retirement

Former Spain international winger Albert Riera has confirmed his retirement from football, after being without a club for two years.

The left-winger began his career at Espanyol while he enjoyed stints in England with Manchester City, Liverpool and Watford while also playing for Olympiakos, Galatasaray, Udinese and Real Mallorca.

The 35-year-old won 16 caps for his country but courted controversy throughout his career – suspended at Liverpool over comments made about boss Rafael Benitez before being sacked by Udinese after attending a poker tournament which coincided with a matchday.

Riera made 56 appearances for Liverpool, netting five times, while he won two league titles with Galatasaray and another with Olympiakos.
