Martinez: Time to fulfill my dream

Villarreal’s new Colombian striker Roger Martinez believes ‘it’s time to fulfil my dream’ after joining from Chinese side Jiangsu Suning in a €15m deal.

The 23-year-old scored 20 goals and assisted 10 in 42 appearances for Jiangsu, having arrived from Argentine side Racing Club in July 2016.

“It’s time to fulfil my dream,” Martinez told reporters, as quoted by El Mundo Deportivo.

“I am very grateful to the club for this opportunity; I will give everything in every training session and in every game.

“Knowing Bacca is a big plus, we have trained together in the national team and have a very good understanding together.

“The club already had an interest in me and I had no doubt that the move would go through, and now it’s time for me to prove my worth.

“I feel good. I was on vacation, but training. I already know that it is not the same to train alone than with the team, but I will try to get into the dynamics of the club.”

He will replace Cedric Bakambu, who is set to travel in the opposite direction, joining Beijing Guoan for €40m.
